Six Secrets To A Happier Life

Six Secrets To A Happier Life

Happiness is contagious, and we are a happy bunch here at Island Outpost. Not just because we spend our afternoons soaking in the warmth of the sun. And not only because every sunset is equally as beautiful as the last. (Though that doesn’t hurt.) We’re happy because our staff is happy. Today, our staff members are sharing how they maintain and even spread their happiness…every day!

1. Say good morning to everyone.

“When I’ve visited places outside of Jamaica, the people always look tense. When I wake up in the morning in my community, every single person that my eyes behold, I say good morning to. People look at me, smile, and say good morning too. That’s Jamaica.” — Clayton, Concierge at GoldenEye

2. Have an open mind and be willing to listen to what others have to say.

“I meet people from all over the world, and they share their views with me. I love it.”  —Dave, Tour Guide at Strawberry Hill

3. Find the perfect balance of exercise, diet and rest.

“To stay healthy, people think that it’s all about the food, but it’s not. It doesn’t make sense if you’re eating healthy, but you’re not exercising. Or if you’re exercising, but you’re not eating healthy. To keep your energy up throughout the day, have a big breakfast, a light lunch, and then have something in the evening—but nothing too heavy. Sleep is very important, too. You have to get your rest. Too much of one thing is not good, and too little of one thing is not enough. So, just find your balance and you’ll be good.” —Olive, Musician, Tour Guide at Strawberry Hill

4. Keep positive people (and places) around you.

5. Visit Jamaica…often!

6. Constantly challenge yourself.

“I’m most excited about new challenges in life. I don’t like sameness, or monotony. Even if something is difficult, and I don’t know how I’ll get it done, I will usually figure it out. Challenges excite me.” —Karen, General Manager at The Caves
