Castleton Gardens
Castleton GardensĀ is one of the oldest Gardens in the Caribbean and well worth a visit. There is always something in flower, with plenty of lawns and a riverside ideally suited for picnics. On the grounds are many rare trees and shrubs. The gardens are primarily known for the comprehensive collection of Palms and cycads. Within the gardens is a fine collection of Cycads, some of which are the original plantings of 200 years ago.
There is only one species of Cycad that develops multi-stems and it is extremely rare; however it is not known if this one is it. Amherstia nobilis is probably one of the most beautiful trees with showy racemes of 4″ flowers produced throughout the spring.
