VISIT THE CAVES AND DISCOVER JAMAICA’S HIDDEN TREASURES WITH “SEA ADVENTURE” TOUR
12/11/2008
Boutique Negril Property Offers Exploration of Island's Secret Caves, Underwater Passageways and Natural Blow Holes
JAMAICA (December 12, 2008) - Uncover the secrets of Jamaica's underwater treasures with The Caves' Sea Adventure tour in Negril. Led by a certified guide, guests of the intimate resort explore the resort's hidden caves and journey through underwater passageways while meeting delightful local marine life.
Part of the Island Outpost collection as created by Island Records' founder Chris Blackwell, The Caves is a serene sanctuary set atop a seaside cliff honeycombed with grottoes. The Caves' Sea Adventure tour is available at no charge for resort guests and takes participants through some of the West End's most breathtaking and pristine aquatic sites.
The excitement begins with snorkeling in the bay at The Sands, a cliff-top haven at The Caves. Snorkels and fins are distributed by Paul Grant, The Caves' in-house Royal Lifesaving Society-trained lifeguard and official tour guide. Guests are led through a narrow opening in the cliff's edge to reveal the "secret cave" - a sand-filled crevice with rolling waves and beams of light.
Next, the tour meanders through a network of sea caves, underwater passageways (optional - guests can swim around it) and even a cave leading under the West End Road to a natural blow hole across the street. Guests swim amongst the reefs, corals, sea fans, scroll coral and green cactus coral. They can also interact with local marine life, including squirrel fish, midnight parrot fish, Caribbean lobster, guard fish, jack fish, yellow tail snapper and banded butterfly fish.
A second blow hole, the Blue Hole, provides a final challenge for the truly adventurous (best attempted during high tide). Explorers can jump through the Blue Hole to the natural pool below.
Capping off the journey, guests head to the main gazebo for a Cliffhanger, The Caves' signature cocktail. Guests can recreate the tangy concoction at home with the Cliffhanger recipe :
The Caves' Cliffhanger
1 shot of Appleton VX Rum
Dash of fresh ginger
Fill glass with Watermelon juice
Top off with 1/2 shot of Meyers rum
Rates for The Caves start at $765 per night based on double occupancy and include breakfast, lunch, dinner, house wine and spirits, taxes and gratuity. For reservations, call 1-800-OUTPOST or visit www.islandoutpost.com/thecaves.
